What Is Digital India?
Digital India is a campaign started by the Government of India, specially to make available government services to the citizens of the country on a Digital platform. Efforts are being made in this campaign to make the country prosperous especially by improving from the roots and empowering the country in the field of technology.

It is ironic that India, the largest exporter of information technology services and skilled In power among developing countries is yet to be digital India. Against this backdrop the government of India launched the Digital India Programme on 1 July 2015. Digital India is an ambitious programme with set objectives towards transforming India into a digitally empowered
society and knowledge economy. It aims to use high internet as a core utility and provide citizens entitlements, documents and host of services on the cloud.
The Digital India programme consists of three core components such as development of secure and stable digital infrastructure, delivering government services digitally and universal digital literacy. It aims to ensure that government services are available to citizens electronically. Digital Empowerment of citizens emphasises on digital literacy and availability of digital resources and services in Indian languages.
Today technology has become the most important thing our children should learn. We need to realise a higher percentage of India’s population gets connected to the Internet. India has achieved tele-density of about 83 percent in 2016. Rural tele-density has increased to above 50 percent. It is also being aimed to bring connectivity to the most isolated regions of India through expansion of mobiles and internet services.
However, much remains to be done in order to truly digitise India. According to NSSO data in 2014, the proportion of Indian households in which at least one member had access to the internet was 16.1 percent in rural areas; 48.7 percent in urban areas and 26.7 percent in rural and urban combined.
It is far short of the near universal connectivity envisaged by Digital India Mission In absolute number, on the contrary, India’s internet usage is impressive. With over 400 India is home to the second largest internet users in the world after China.
A pan-indian programme like Digital India would take a gargantuan span of time and whether it has become a success or a failure is a premature question, indeed. However, it can firmly be that India is being digitised at a pace peculiar to India and the day is not far off when India will be reality.
When did Digital India Campaign start?
The Digital India campaign was launched on July 1, 2015, at the Indira Gandhi Stadium in New Delhi. It was inaugurated by our Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi ji in the presence of eminent industrialists like Mukesh Ambani, Azim Premji, Cyrus Mistry. It was launched to connect rural areas to the Internet and increase Digital Literacy.
There were many people who did not have any information about government facilities, due to which they could not take advantage of it. But Digital India gave them a new light, made them aware of their rights, that too very easily.Digital India has strengthened its hold in areas and is moving ahead on the same path.
Objectives of Digital India
Digital India campaign is one such scheme run by the Government of India, whose main objective is to reach government facilities from door to door, that too through digitization.

➢The first is to provide a digital infrastructure to every citizen of the country.
➢The second is to take care of the digital empowerment of every citizen.
➢Third is to provide governance and service to the citizens according to their demand.
